And one of the ways that McDowald relaxes in his spare time (such as it is) is by looking at watches, and thinking about watches, and reading about watches. The 25-year-old’s collection is small but growing https://www.vhei.eu/members/jpearlr/profile/ – and shows, already, a harmonious relationship of design among the watches that would be a credit to any collection.

Moments like these leave a mark. And you don’t have to be a mountain climber to feel one. Maybe you’ve felt the jolt of adrenaline from narrowly avoiding a traffic accident with a split-second decision. You learn from the experience and share it with your community, hoping no one else will have a similar encounter. And you realize that life hinges not on minutes, hours, years, or decades – but on seconds and fractions of seconds.

Finally, we’d been saving this one for our store opening, but we’d like to offer one example of every single HODINKEE Limited Edition for sale at its original retail price. Yup, we’ve been able to buy back one of each watch from the very beginning, and we want you guys to have the chance to buy them. If interested, send a note to limited@ and we’ll do it on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Nick’s piece – which you should certainly read before mine – is a diss track of my favorite watch, masquerading as a labor of love on his favorite watch. He boldly claims that the Rolex Milgauss 116400 with the white dial is the “best” Milgauss – which it’s not, unless my job is on the line, in which case … it absolutely is.

In addition to the off-center dial at 6 o’clock for the hours and minutes, four symmetrically positioned discs stand out, as do the five push-buttons set in the case middle of the 44mm diameter zirconium case that is water-resistant to a depth of 80 meters.

If you’re new to the watch world, you’ll notice there’s a lot of talk about things that are good for decades, incredible watches that never go out of style, and basically anything else that emphasizes longevity. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t fads and trends. Quite the opposite, in fact. Some of these trends come and go every few years, others have a longer arc, but they’re there, and they’re not that hard to spot.

After the wild success of the modern Timex Q released last May, the Waterbury, Connecticut-based watchmaker is back for a second act in a series of Timex Q re-editions. This time, it riffs on a design that’s, again, very familiar. But the most unexpected bit about this watch has nothing to do with its looks: It’s what’s inside. The new watch is dubbed the “M79,” and “M” stands for mechanical. The “79” is a nod to the year the original Q was released.

The dial of the Black Bay 54 maintains the classic aesthetic with its domed black finish, large luminescent markers, and snowflake hands, which are signature elements of the Black Bay line. These features ensure excellent readability in low-light conditions. It’s the smaller Black Bay that so many were asking for, and it’s been a hit since Tudor released it at Watches & Wonder 2023.

Rado might not have the garnered the sort of clout in the dive watch category throughout the decades as other brands, but if this were one of the other Swatch group manufacturers, the watch might be positioned at a significantly higher price point. The C07.611 movement has been used in previous executions of the watch, and it’s still a strong selling point, with a commendable 80 hours of power reserve.

Now the official owner of the watch, Cutter at first felt that this “fancy watch” was suitable only for special events like an evening gala. “But actually I wear it pretty often,” she says. “Maybe more than I should.”

The two chronograph trains are symmetrical, with one caveat – the train from the upper barrel has to pass under one of the two large intermediate wheels. This means that the center wheel of the train and the intermediate wheel have to be on the same axis.

I find the Revival A3642 exciting because I really like the sort of smoked brown dial. It definitely harkens back to what people think of as the sixties and seventies, that futuristic look. I think it’s great. But I would love to see them do something similar to what they did with an El Primero recently, by auctioning off a unique piece with a pink dial for breast cancer awareness. I love that. That’d be cool.

Of course, fair warning, while I won’t spoil the film itself, I will be touching on a lot of plot points connected to Bond and his watch as seen in the movie. So if you haven’t seen it, which you should (safely, of course), then head to your local theater and re-open this article on your return. Otherwise, let’s get into it.

Argo is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. It’s also become known, in watch-loving circles, for having one of the most blatant horological gaffes in cinematic history. Here on Watching Movies, we’ve addressed some films (like House of Gucci or The Big Short) that feature less than period-accurate watches, But in those, the watches don’t seem so out of place that they break your suspension of disbelief.

Vuitton originally collaborated with Kusama back in 2012 with then-creative director Marc Jacobs. That collection is the stuff fashion legends are made of, finding certain pieces now is like finding buried internet treasure / hidden Pokemon Go characters. They do extremely well on the resell market. Jacobs was the king of deconstructing and rebuilding the Louis Vuitton logo. Kusama was part of Jacobs’ legendary roster of artist collaborators: Steven Sprouse, Takashi Murakami, and Richard Prince.

While we’re a platform dedicated to all things horology, a good amount of our favorites zoom out to show the broader context. You’ll also find some stellar macro shots, because these are small objects, after all. And there’s a level of technical proficiency you can’t dismiss when trying to bend light and focus a lens on a detail the size of quinoa. Overall, the photo galleries that follow speak to the opportunities that an interest in watches has afforded our photographers.

More broadly, this era of Rolex has always felt like the perfect blend of sports and elegance. By the early 1950s we had the Submariner, GMT-Master, Explorer, and all the other sports models that continue to make up the Rolex catalog. But before that was an incredible era of experimentation and innovation in complications and design. I’ve written about the 6062 Triple Calendar before, but there’s also the Jean-Claude Killy, the Galaxy, and so many others.

“We live in a world where people are making things and sharing their work,” Meijers told me. “Just as I did. We are used to waiting for manufacturers to make what we want. But it’s just not true anymore. Software is being open-sourced. If you want to make something, you can.”
